On Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Canadian indie veteran and Japanese deathmatch specialist Luther made his debut with the company, revealed as the newest member of Brandi Rhodes‘ Nightmare Collective, alongside Awesome Kong and Melanie Cruise. Luther is better known for his time in Japan in the mid-90s with some of the country’s hardest hitting promotions.

Dr. Luther is from Calgary, Alberta, Canada and trained in the Hart Dungeon in the late 80s, working for Stampede Wrestling and Canadian National Wrestling Alliance (CNWA). It was in these Western promotions that he encountered Chris Jericho. After a few years with Stampede and CNWA, Luther headed to Japan.
He headed first to Frontier Martial-arts Wrestling (FMW) becoming their World Light Heavyweight Champion, with stops in Wrestle Association R (WAR), IWA Japan and others.
He returned to North America and joined a burgeoning promotion on Canada’s West Coast, Extreme Canadian Championship Wrestling (ECCW, although they’ve since changed the E to stand for Elite), where he won the ECCW Heavyweight Championship. He made a few appearances for ECW near the end of the decade. His in-ring days began to slow down by the early 2000s, and he made a comeback in the last few years, with ECCW as well as US Pacific Northwest indie promotions like DEFY Wrestling and DOA Wrestling.
