After a rather quiet week and weekend for the WWE, Raw was back tonight as the King of the Ring tournament continued and Sasha Banks returned to in-ring action for the first time since WrestleMania. Here are the Raw highlights
Raw Highlights: King of the Ring Night 3 Results
The King of the Ring continues to roll as the final two first-round matchups from the Raw side took place, leaving two men one step closer to being named “King”.
King of the Ring First Round: Ricochet vs Drew McIntyre
A match between two favorites in the very first round was held as Ricochet and Drew McIntyre went to battle. Ricochet was in for the fight of his life as McIntyre was going to do all he could to become the new “King of the Ring”. McIntyre went over to the throne prior to the match and even picked up the crown before the matchup. It would turn out to be a valiant effort by both men, in which McIntyre controlled much of the bout. Ricochet would surprise McIntyre as he hit the Recoil from the second rope before heading back to the top to hit the 630 Splash to earn the victory, picking up the upset and moving himself one step further to being known as King Ricochet once again.
King of the Ring First Round: The Miz vs Baron Corbin
The Miz vs Baron Corbin was actually a better match than you would think it would be. Was it great? No. But it did plenty as Miz looked to add yet another accolade to his list and Baron Corbin hoped to climb to the top of the mountain after months of downfall. Miz would hit a Skull Crushing Finale on Corbin but would only get a two count on the near fall. Corbin would eventually come out victorious following an End of Days to Miz for the victory.
Raw Highlights: Cedric Alexander checks Cesaro
Cedric Alexander was the only man who had advanced in the King of the Ring to fight the following week as he took on Cesaro in a great match that is no shock to none of us. While Cedric dominated early, it was Cesaro who attacked the leg of Alexander. Cesaro made the point before the match that if he would be able to hurt him enough during the match, it would lead to Cedric possibly being replaced. However, “The Soul of 205 Live” would not allow Cesaro to rid him of his dream. As Cesaro would slide into the ring, Alexander caught him with a huge Lumbar Check to grab another huge victory to continue his momentum into next week as he continues his road to becoming “King”.
Raw MVP: Sasha Banks
Sasha Banks was scheduled to make her in-ring return against Natalya but before that, she kicked off the show to explain why she went away and the reason she is finally back. She confirmed that she was in the locker room on the floor crying at WrestleMania, but not because she lost the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles, but because Becky Lynch was main eventing WrestleMania and not her. She made the statement that she is the centerpiece of the women’s division, “The Boss” of that division, and it seems Becky Lynch’s Raw Women’s Championship will be her opportunity to prove that. Natalya would come out to brawl with her before the match later in the night.
Sasha Banks vs Natalya
Sasha Banks and Natalya went to battle as Nattie had her arm all taped up following the weeks of beat downs by Banks. And well Natalya got a good amount of offense in, it would be Banks who secured the victory with a modified Bank Statement as she pulled Natalya’s injured arm around the neck of Nattie to choke her and bring double the pain. Natalya would tap out, leaving Banks victorious in her first match back. Banks would continue the assault after, locking in the Bank Statement again before leaving the arena with a smile on her face.
It was by no means the best Raw we have had in a while, but we did get to see two more big matchups in the King of the Ring tournament along with Sasha’s return to the ring.
Be sure to check back tomorrow morning for the SmackDown Rundown!
