RISE Wrestling, a promotion based out of Naperville, Illinois began in 2016. On June 30th, they held one of their biggest events to date, Pride & Joy. To date, RISE has been almost exclusively a women’s wrestling promotion. Over the course of their tenure, they have held 18 stand-alone events, as well as taping 33 episodes of their show RISE: Ascent. Their mission statement has been DTWA, Developing Tomorrow’s Women Athletes.

As part of Pride & Joy, they included several male wrestlers in this celebration of inclusiveness and equality. After the main event, Mercedes Martinez took to the microphone. She praised her opponent, Cassandro, the crowd and everyone who participated in that night’s event. Mercedes also revealed that RISE will have a new mission statement. DTWA will now stand for Developing Tomorrow’s Wrestling Attractions.

The official statement from RISE on this name change is as follows: “Hence Forth: RISE – Developing Tomorrow’s Wrestling Attractions. We will maintain just as much focus as we’ve ever had on Women Athletes. Tonight was a first step into developing a much bigger picture for the future of professional wrestling.” As RISE continues to develop and change, we here at Last Word on Pro Wrestling will continue to cover their journey. When reached out to for comment, RISE responded that “Some things will be made public very soon.”

  1. This move, while taking RISE out of direct competition with SHIMMER, now puts it in competition with all the other Chicago based Indaies, most notably AAW..
