In the midst of a fantastic Pro Wrestling EVE Wrestle Queendom 2 event on Sunday afternoon, former EVE Champion Charlie Morgan announced her retirement from professional wrestling. She is just 27 years old. The retirement is not something she made lightly and is a result of injuries she sustained this past March while making her US debut with SHIMMER. In a wrong landed fall, she severely damaged her ankle. It comes on the last day of Pride Month, a month close and dear to Morgan’s heart, as she herself came out as lesbian at an EVE event nearly two years ago.

Charlie Morgan was trained by the Knight Family (Ricky & Saraya Knight) at World Association of Wrestling (WAW) in 2011, originally going by the name Penelope. She wrestled her way through the UK indies for years, before undergoing a name change to Charlie Morgan in 2017.

Following the name change, she exploded in the UK indie scene, working with EVE, PROGRESS Wrestling, Revolution Pro (RevPro), Over the Top (OTT) Wrestling and more. In May of 2018, she became the “Ace of EVE”, capturing the EVE Championship and holding it for 190 days. Her fearless attitude and inspiration made her an indie sensation and she began working with NXT UK late last year when the brand got underway.

She made her US debut in a battle royal with RISE Wrestling on March 29 at RISE 13: Legendary, before working three shows for SHIMMER over the following days, before her injury. We wish Charlie Morgan all the best in her future and while the star was clearly upset at having to hang up her boots during her speech on Sunday, she did look forward to “growing old gracefully”.
