Flip of the Turn: Flip Gordon is a Villain

Friday night’s Ring of Honor event, Best in the World, saw lots of shocking moments – from debuts from Eli Drake and Maria Manic, to shocking upsets of Dragon Lee (and to a degree Jeff Cobb), the biggest moment involved Flip Gordon. By the end of the night, Marty Scurll revealed the fourth member of his Villain Enterprises stable, that also featured PCO and Brody King, was none other than “The Mercenary” Flip Gordon.

While the promo itself was quite good, it was the timing of the reveal that was the real story. Just moments earlier, members of LifebloodBandido, Tracy Williams, Mark Haskins, and PJ Black – were attacked by Sons of Savagery, a new tag team tandem, with Bandido brutalized by Bully Ray. This lead to Flip Gordon coming down to the ring to save Lifeblood. As Bully retreated, Bandido offered Flip a Lifeblood shirt, a la the nWo recruitment days, which Flip put on and raised his arms in unity with his new stable.

And then Marty Scurll made the reveal. Flip turned on Lifeblood and the rest of Villain Enterprises rushed the ring. With two singles competitors and a tag team now, Villain Enterprises can now branch deeper into Ring of Honor, as well as other promotions they work, such as Australia’s World Series Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW). Scurll and Flip could easily be the VE entry into the 2019 NJPW Junior Tag League this October. With Scurll’s contract reportedly up this fall, it could be his final run in New Japan.

Flip’s joining also tied to both Marty Scurll’s and Flip Gordon’s career together on the Being The Elite YouTube series produced by Scurll’s former Bullet Club/The Elite running mates The Young Bucks. Flip is essentially a fringer Elite member, in the vein of how Disco Inferno was in nWo Wolfpaq.
