Minoru Suzuki Calls out Jon Moxley and Chris Jericho

He’s one of the most feared and respected grapplers from Japan of the past 30 years. Minoru Suzuki, the icy cold killer and leader of NJPW’s Suzuki-gun stable, has declared his intention to fight both Chris Jericho and newly crowned IWGP United States Champion Jon Moxley, in a tweet he sent out on Thursday, seemingly in response to Jericho running his mouth about his big match at Dominion against IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada.

“Say what you want to say…@IamJericho,” he said in his tweet. “I want to fight Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley. I want to wrestle them. The world’s professional wrestling fans want to see this. The world is waiting. Listen carefully. Suzuki is Japan.” When NJPW failed to respond to his challenges, he returned to Twitter.

“Don’t give me an answer…New Japan Pro Wrestling!” he proclaimed. “Listen to the voice of the world!”

Minoru Suzuki, at 50 years old, is only a couple of years older than Chris Jericho, now 48. Suzuki made his pro wrestling debut in 1988, trained out of the New Japan Dojo, while Jericho was trained by the Hart Family in 1990. While a young Lionheart was working New Japan in the early 1990s, Suzuki was working for one of his mentors, Yoshiaki Fujiwara, in Universal Wrestling Federation (UWF) and then Pro Wrestling Fujiwara Gumi, before leaving to found Pancrase in 1993.

While it’s quite possible NJPW ends up holding both these potential fights on their own cards, Jon Moxley could always meet Suzuki on US soil. Game Changer Wrestling (GCW), a hardcore promotion that many fans have hoped to see Moxley appear with, recently announced that Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport 2, a follow-up to the shoot fighting tournament that was held this past WrestleMania week, will take place Saturday, September 14 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Suzuki has been a part of both the last Bloodsport, as well as the inaugural one hosted by Matt Riddle last year. A full throttle battle between Moxley and Minoru at Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport 2 could be the perfect venue for such a monstrous dream match.

Jon Moxley has definitely become a targeted opponent since his departure from the WWE, as IMPACT’s Killer Kross announced he was hunting the former Lunatic Fringe on Wednesday.
