Match Point is an on-going series at Last Word on Pro Wrestling, where we look at intriguing matchups in indie wrestling and beyond. They may be dream matches, first-time matchups, or hotly anticipated rematches. Today’s edition looks at a newly announced first-time matchup featuring the King of American Hardcore, GCW World Heavyweight Champion Nick Gage facing one of the toughest wrestlers in the game today, PROGRESS Women’s Champion Jordynne Grace at Black Label Pro’s Player’s Ball on April 20, 2019.
On Saturday, April 20, 2019, Black Label Pro presents The Player’s Ball, hosted by WWE Hall of Famer The Godfather. On Tuesday, BLP announced a shocking first-time matchup featuring two of the most popular wrestlers on the circuit in an intergender match that will shake the very walls of the Century Center in South Bend, Indiana.
The current reigning Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) World Heavyweight Champion, Nick Gage has seen a career renaissance the past few years. For over a decade, his name was synonymous with Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW), where his penchant for the Ultra Violence garnered him four reigns as the CZW World Heavyweight Champion. But following several years away from the sport due to incarceration for armed robbery, he returned a changed man and a better wrestler. Now the face of GCW, he’s also worked for more mainstream wrestling promotions like Beyond Wrestling, CHIKARA, Bar Wrestling and Absolute Intense Wrestling (AIW). But don’t think Gage has gotten soft in his elder years – he’s still one of the baddest men in the ring and is willing to bleed to earn his victories.
In the past year, Jordynne Grace has exploded into one of the most popular indie wrestlers in the world. She’s currently seen on television as one of the newest Knockouts in IMPACT Wrestling, while still touring the world and working for the likes of Beyond Wrestling, PROGRESS, Pro Wrestling EVE, Shine Wrestling, Smash Wrestling, NOVA Pro, Over The Top (OTT) Wrestling, House of Glory, and many more. She’s the current reigning PROGRESS Women’s Champion and a former BLP Heavyweight Champion. But don’t think she hasn’t been in some rather rough matches herself – in her early days, she worked for the likes of CZW, IWA Mid South and other more hardcore promotions.
