At the New Japan Pro Wrestling and Ring of Honor tour Honor Rising in Japan on Saturday, Bullet Club‘s Guerrillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa) defeated Los Ingobernables de Japon‘s SANADA & EVIL to become IWGP Tag Team Champions once again.

The win gives GoD their 5th reign as IWGP Tag Team Champions, moving them into a tie for second place for NJPW’s most decorated tag team champions in history. With five title reigns, they now tie the legendary Cho-Ten tandem of Masahiro Chono & Hiroyoshi Tenzan who won five titles between 1995 and 2005. They are only one more title reign away from tying the record of six titles, held by another of Tenzan’s tag teams, Tencozy, that paired Tenzan with Satoshi Kojima. Tencozy has won six titles from 1999 through 2017. More impressively, it’s taken GoD just three years to acquire their five titles, while it took Cho-Ten a decade, and it’s been 18 years for Tencozy to amass six. Tencozy’s sixth and final reign was a short run in 2017, four years after their 5th title win. Following their victory, the new IWGP Tag Team Champs confronted Ring of Honor’s World Tag Team Champions The Briscoes and challenged them a match at the MSG Supercard in New York City, with both titles on the line apparently, in a Summit Showdown.
