Indie Watch is our regular series that looks at all of the amazing talents working the independent circuits around the world. Some are veterans revitalizing their careers, some are indie prospects hitting their peaks, while others are names to be on the watch for! This edition looks at Spanish indie star A-Kid, whose recent performances against the likes of Zack Sabre Jr. and Ricochet are starting to showcase the Spanish wunderkid as one of the next global superstars.

The Spanish wrestling scene in on the rise. While places like the United Kingdom and Germany have a firm grip on the European wrestling scene, Spain is slowly rising this year. In that rise, Spanish wrestling promotion, WhiteWolf Wrestling, has in their hand the key for the next level. His name is A-Kid and he’s the ace of Spanish wrestling.

Triple W (Whitewolf Wrestling) project is famous in Madrid. They started showcasing talents on their free shows back in 2010. This would later change with the arrival of Ricochet, back in 2017. The appearance of the now NXT North American Champion was already a big thing, but, it was who he was facing that elevated the match.

By the time that Ricochet arrived in Whitewolf, A-Kid was a 5-year veteran that started very early. He was almost self-trained, and, after being challenged by a wrestler in Spain, he showed bits of his unlimited potential. Anonymous Kid, was later shortened to A-Kid and the rest was history. He became the face of Triple W, winning the Triple W Absolute Championship in three occasions.

When Ricochet arrived in 2017, A-Kid was the face of the company. Although the Spanish wrestling scene is small, with not much history, A-Kid represented the hope that one day, that perception could change. A-Kid vs. Ricochet was so big, that people from other regions from Spain, driving several hours, came and packed the arena that night. Fans were left outside for such event, with the energy of the crowd being the catalyst for the solid match Ricochet and A-Kid gave.

Fast forward to 2018, A-Kid and Adam Chase (now Carlos Romo) are everywhere in the United Kingdom. Team WhiteWolf start to appear in Revolution Pro Wrestling, PROGRESS Wrestling, Over the Top (OTT) Wrestling, CHIKARA, and ATTACK! Pro Wrestling. In the process, A-Kid collected the ATTACK! and RIOT Tag Team Championships, while participating in CHIKARA’s Rey de Voladores tournament.

But, the biggest achievement of A-Kid came when he went against “The Technical Wizard” Zack Sabre Jr. this past spring. The match was a classic, probably the best match in Spanish wrestling history (and maybe in Europa this year). Kid’s agility and well-versed ability gave Sabre Jr. more than he could chew. The instant classic was given five stars by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer. Meltzer wrote on the match that happened back in April: “It’s one of the best fights I’ve seen this year, it would be in my top 10. It could be the fight of the year, in my point of view it’s the perfect professional wrestling match, there was nothing wrong and the atmosphere was incredible. A-Kid should work in the United States, in a place like PWG (Pro Wrestling Guerrilla)… when I saw him I asked myself where this boy came from, and he came from Madrid. The fans are amazing, and they remind me of PWG fans.“

A-Kid is no Hiroshi Tanahashi (at least not yet), but he’s truly the ace of Spain. When asked by Solo Wrestling on his five-star match, A-Kid responded the following: “It was very surprising, not only because of what happened but because it happened 5 months after the fight, it was a very big exhibition and I hope that it will give rise to new companies to work in. In any case, I do not give it more importance than the one it has, a wrestling journalist liked a good wrestling match.”

A-Kid is not the ace of Spain because he delivers big matches and is touring the UK. Although that’s part of the picture, that is not solely responsible. It’s because of his commitment to the craft and his country’s wrestling scene. And A-Kid has already been invited by WWE to a try-out (in Germany for Robbie Brookside). Moreover, the company that before was giving free shows, is now having shows with 15 to 25 euros the ticket while being shown on the streaming service PowerSlam TV. A-Kid, alongside guys like Carlos Romo, Yunke and Jason Jupiter can put Spanish wrestling on the world map.

If you want to catch the best wrestling in Spain, subscribe to PowerSlam TV. Triple W’s upcoming show will feature A-Kid, Carlos Romo, Angelico and UK stars like Chris Brookes, Aussie Open and Jordan Devlin.

You can catch them in the wrestling streaming service PowerSlam TV on Roku, Apple TV and other streaming providers. You can download Powerslam TV for Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Prime and Google Play.
