On Saturday night, Westside Mafia became 2x World Wrestling League Tag Team Champions when they defeated The TIDE & Primos Melendez in the WWL High Volatge tapings.
Tag Team Supremacy
The WWL tag team division has been red-hot. It all started in May when out of nowhere, Primos Melendez defeated WSM and The TIDE (Mike Mendoza & Angel Fashion) to become new WWL Tag Team Champions. This started a battle for supremacy in Puerto Rico’s number one promotion.
Mendoza and Fashion, feeling that they have never been defeated clean in the square circle, challenge the underdog tag team, but fell short. In that same process, WSM entered a bitter feud with The TIDE. Colliding in the next High Voltage taping, where the match ended in a epic draw. In that same show, Boris Billbraut, owner of WWL, announced that in August 18, Westside Mafia, The TIDE and Primos Melendez will have to battle for the titles in a Table, Ladders & Chairs match.
It was in this TLC match, that yesterday, Westside Mafia recuperated their tag team titles and definitely ending on of the best tag team in feud in the past fiver years in Puerto Rican wrestling.
An Uncertain Aftermath
With WSM becoming 2x champions, new challengers have to step up. Puro Macho, the heel stable in the company, seems as the better candidates for that challenge. Primos Melendez will probably get a rematch in the next September 1 taping in Guaynabo.
For Angel Fashion & Mike Mendoza, their alliance looks uncertain. Fashion wrote on social media that if this was his last match in WWL, he was completely satisfied. Mendoza looks fitted for a singles push and the only wrestler that could beat Mecha Wolf 450 for the WWL Heavyweight Championship. For years Mendoza vs. 450 is a match that fans a unrelentingly asking for. Fashion, who lives in Florida, seems in the middle of a hard decision for the company, do they push him as a singles? or, is this his last chapter for the company because of his outside status?
