Sonjay Dutt: Wrestler, Writer, Commentator

Color commentary, being a member of the creative team, recovering from injury, Sonjay Dutt is certainly a busy man. But he certainly isn’t looking for sympathy. “It comes with the territory. There’s a lot of stuff that needs to be done and we’re all doing it. Every day, day in and day out. Behind the cameras, there’s a lot, especially with the production team in Nashville. None of this stuff would be possible without those guys and their hard work and creativity. It’s definitely a team effort, all the way.”

A surprise move to the commentary booth has seemed to be fairly successful. “I do feel comfortable in the booth, I think Josh and I have good chemistry, I really do. I wasn’t too sure about this endeavor, but I said ‘you know what? Let’s give it a shot.’ And I think it’s kind of worked out. I think it’s going okay. My first couple weeks I was still getting into the groove of things and figuring out the intricacies that go along with it to make it a good show, but I told Josh (Matthews) before we started that first episode, ‘you lead and I’ll follow, and as long we have that on the table we’ll be all right.’ I think we’re doing okay.”

Twelve weeks removed from surgery, fans want to know about his future in the ring. “Good question. I’m not entirely decided what my future is. Eighteen years in the professional wrestling business, eighteen years as an in-ring performer is pretty much half my life at this point. This is the longest time period of time I have not spent in a ring, it’s been twelve weeks since surgery, it seems like an eternity, but I’ve got a lot of stuff on my plate. Adding to that is getting myself in the loop with Josh every week. I do miss wrestling, but there’s a lot on my plate right now. When the time comes, where I can get back in the ring, where I’m fully recovered, I think of it as a bridge I’ll cross then.”

Will Sonjay Dutt return to the ring? The Original Playa From The Himalayas has been a part of Impact Wrestling. No matter what his role looks like going forward, Dutt is major asset for the company.
