Match Point is an ongoing series at Last Word on Pro Wrestling, where we look at intriguing matchups in indie wrestling and beyond. They may be dream matches, first-time matchups, or hotly anticipated rematches. Today’s edition features a match up from one of the WrestleMania week events, where it’s IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay vs Dezmond Xavier at CZW’s showcase at WrestleCon on April 7, 2018

The WrestleMania weekend continues to throw up some must-watch matches.  Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) brings in one of the better-looking matches from that weekend.  We have the Aerial Assasin and current IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay against CZW and Impact star Dezmond Xavier.  CZW is known for its deathmatch image which the company has shed under Sami Callihan’s guidance.  The company is now focused on fast-paced high spot action and this match will tick all the boxes.

With a nickname like the aerial assassin, you know what to expect.  Hailing from Rainham in Essex the British native was pivotal in the British Wrestling boom.  Most known for his infamous match against Ricochet from 2016 Ospreay has a reputation, whether fair or not, for being a “flippy guy”.  While yes Ospreay can pull off an awe-inspiring array of moves he is also a fantastic wrestler.  He is fast approaching the peak of his abilities and is a great opponent for the young Xavier.  Ospreay is the embodiment of the modern day independent wrestler.  He wrestles for any and every company and gives 110% to every match and this one won’t be any different.

An impressive young high flier who has massive potential.  As part of Scarlet & Graves with Zachary Wentz is a former CZW tag champion and has toured the UK and Dragon Gate.  His biggest exposure has more than likely come as the winner of Impact Wrestling’s Super X Cup last year in Impact Wrestling.  Last year also saw him make his Pro Wrestling Guerrila debut.  Despite only debuting in 2011 Xavier has had a very good career with a tonne of accolades.  He has a good look and can more than back it up in the ring.  He has a style similar to AR Fox and Shane Strickland where he is unbelievably athletic and cleanly pulls off high spots that most others couldn’t dream of.  Having a good match with Ospreay can be good for your career and really give you name value.  In that regard, this could be the most important match of Xavier’s career and he will definitely deliver.
