It was announced yesterday that WWE/NXT Superstar Drew McIntyre will return to Insane Championship Wrestling (ICW) to be inducted into ICW’s Hall Of Fame, at their event on February 12th, titled The Biggest Fight Club taping EVER! at the O2 ABC Glasgow. He will be only the second entry into the company’s HOF, joining 2016’s inaugural inductee, Carmel Jacob.

McIntyre is currently away from in-ring action in NXT, recuperating from a bicep injury sustained last November at TakeOver: WarGames. With WWE maintaining something of a working relationship with ICW (along with other UK promotions such as PROGRESS), this latest show of goodwill from them is a major coup for the Scottish promotion. ICW will get to host another current WWE star (having previously had recent appearances from William Regal and Triple H) as they honour their first ever champion from back in 2006 – before McIntyre’s initial WWE run – as well as acknowledge and honor his contributions to the company’s impressive growth between 2014-2017. McIntyre’s return to ICW in 2014 provided one of the most impactful and memorable moments of the year from anywhere in the wrestling world:

McIntyre soon recaptured the Heavyweight championship and enjoyed an impressive reign of 378 days, defending the title in several international indies and representing the brand as a World Champion. He undoubtedly played a major role in ICW’s expansion, including their move to the Hydro arena in Glasgow for their annual supershow, Fear & Loathing. McIntyre has since responded to the news of his upcoming induction on Twitter, referring to his upcoming induction as a “truly special” honor.

Having been a cornerstone player in ICW, this is a fitting and well deserved tribute for McIntyre and promises to be a special moment for him, the promotion and of course the ICW fans.
