Last week was a week of endings and new beginnings for indie superstar Ricochet, capturing two major singles in four days as his future opens up in regards to his long term legacy. On Wednesday night during the Season 3 finale of Lucha Underground, Ricochet – under the mask of his LU character Prince Puma – captured his second Lucha Underground championship when he defeated Johnny Mundo (former WWE Superstar John Morrison) in a Career vs. Title match, ending Mundo’s near year long reign as LU Champion (in accordance with the kayfabe of the series, as the matches were taped over a year ago). Unfortunately, his 2nd reign as Champion lasted barely an hour, as he lost it in the main event when Pentagon Dark (now Penta El 0M on the indie circuit) defeated Puma in a Loser Leaves Town match after Pentagon cashed in his Gift of the Gods title for the championship match. It was no surprise, as Puma (Ricochet) was well documented as leaving Lucha Underground following the conclusion of the third Season. With Lucha Underground’s third season now complete, Ricochet is officially now arguably the hottest free agent on the independent circuit right now, with his 90-day no compete clause expiring on January 18, 2018.

The surprising World title victory occurred on Saturday at PWG‘s All Star Weekend 13 event, when he faced the newly crowned PWG World Heavyweight Champion Chuck Taylor in the main event. With internet buzz that Ricochet was headed to NXT in the near future, many speculated that Taylor would retain his title, with the match more of a send off for Ricochet from PWG, in a match against the man who trained him as a teenager. But in a shocking turn of events, Ricochet defeated “The Kentucky Gentleman” for the World title in Taylor’s first title defense since he took the title from Zack Sabre Jr. back in July of this year.

Ricochet’s PWG World Championship win caps off an amazing year for Ricochet, who captured his second PWG Battle of Los Angeles victory (the only man to win it more than once), plus reigns as IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion in Funky Future with Ryusuke Taguchi andĀ NEVERĀ 6-Man Tag Team Champion alongside Taguchi and Hiroshi Tanahashi. This marks Ricochet’s first World Championship victory of his 12-year career.
